Mala-Daki steer tops hoof and hook 

A Simmental steer from Tamworth-based stud Mala-Daki Simmentals continued the breed's recent dominance in carcase competitions, dominating in both the hoof and hook judging of the RAS Beef Challenge. 

Not only was the Mala-Daki Simmental steer names individual winner in the live assessments, he was awarded grand champion individual carcase.

Breed wins Stan Hill Trophy

It took almost four decades, but the Simmental breed's carcase qualities have been recogniseed with the Stan Hill Trophy at the 2019 Sydney Royal Easter Show. The three steers managed a total score of 259 of a possible 300.

The Impey's class winning steer, which scored 88 points, was sired by Mala-Daki Red Amigo K649, while their other steer was by Springside Eldorado.

Carcase quality key for breed's next step

"We had a nice line of commercial and stud cows before the drought hit, and now we're focusing on the best quality breeders." The stud bred two of the three steers that took out the Stan Hill Trophy at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, and in October they had success in the RAS Beef Challenge. One of their steers was overall champion in the 70 day domestic class, after being named individual winner in the live assessments and awarded grand champion individual carcase.
